Goodbye Gwen!

An interview with senior Gwendolyn Lopez on her time on the Chronilce

Gwendolyn Lopez has been on the staff of the Pasadena Chronicle in the fall of 2021, ever since students returned to school after the COVID-19 lockdown. She has written seven articles and edited even more during her time in Chronicle, and is planning on continuing writing at UCLA, where she’ll begin her undergraduate degree in English this fall.

Before she leaves, the Chronicle interviewed Gwen about her time on the Chronicle.

Mallika Sheshadri (S): Why did you join the Chronicle?

Gwendolyn Lopez (L): I like writing and I wanted to write for the school

S: What is your favorite part of the Chronicle?

L: I like working with people and being in the advisory. I think interviewing people is really interesting!

S: Do you have a favorite Chronicle memory?

L: Yeah, I do. It was the bake sale we had in March! It was great to be out of Mr. Narasky’s room for once, and everyone was really involved. I loved the comradery.

S: What was the most memorable article you’ve seen?

L: There was an article on fire alarms that was submitted back in 2021. It was a little too out there to be published, but it’ll live in my heart forever. It’s kind of an inside joke in the Chronicle now.

S: What was the most frustrating part of Chronicle

L: It is so hard to recruit new people. Most members join and don’t do any work. It’s also hard to be organized; even though we have small numbers, we’re pretty all over the place.

S: What would you add to the Chronicle if you had the chance?

L: More people! That’s obviously really hard, so other than that I would say more equipment and resources. And I think we could have better graphics.

S: What advice would you give to future Chronicle members or young writers?

L: Don’t be afraid to write about what interests you and to bring controversial issues to light.
