Club Spotlight: Future Medical Professionals Club

The human body is a tapestry: bones and joints woven together with muscle and sinew chords, patches of organs, all laced together by veins that carry crimson currents of life-sustaining blood. With all of its marvelous components, it’s sure to pique someone’s fascination. If that person happens to be you, look no further than the Future Medical Professionals’ Club at PHS!

Future Medical Professionals Club is a group of 10-15 members of various grade levels united by their desire to enter the medical field. The president of the club, Grace Yang (11th grade), brings her enthusiasm for pediatrics to the table. During our interview, she spoke to me about how her love for working with children has motivated her to volunteer at the pediatrics division of the Huntington Hospital and help at the Pasadena Education Foundation. Another member, Yeonho Jeong (12th grade) is considering fields like dermatology in the future. Their variety of experiences and interests bring to light the diversity of the medical field. While some people are intrigued by the micro-scale know-how of our bodily systems, others are more strongly motivated by altruism and a desire for human connection. When thinking about a medical career it’s easy to become intimidated by years of schooling and endless information to cram, but it’s important to recognize that medicine is at its core about humanity. It’s about being able to cure, treat, and assist others so they can live their lives to the fullest.

If you're interested in the medical field and are looking for some direction, the Future Medical Professional’s Club is a great place to find community, learn about possible career specializations, receive college application guidance, and gain access to internship/volunteer experiences. Members enjoy sharing their career interests and participating in interactive games that help them learn anatomy and medical terminology, and that’s just the start of it. To get in contact with the club you can join their Remind with the code “89kaege” or DM them through Instagram at “@phs.future.mps”. The Future Medical Professional’s Club looks forward to seeing you at their Monday lunch meetings in Ms.Jacalone’s classroom.
