Performing Arts Article
Pasadena High School is home to not only a wide variety of performing arts, but has done and continues to showcase these performers in a wide variety of places to a number of people. On one hand, we have both the PHS marching band and jazz ensemble, along with the strings orchestra and symphonic orchestra. Often performing with the marching band is colorguard; though they perform independently as well. On the other hand, there is the Pasadena High School’s orchesis dance team; or even PHS’ musical cast! With all these performing arts groups, we can start to wonder what they will be up to in the coming months. But firstly, let's look over some of their recent accomplishments.
Just recently, on February 2nd, the PHS marching band, colorguard, and orchesis team had the exciting opportunity to perform along Disneyland’s Main Street U.S.A. The band performed two pieces of music alongside the incredible dancing of orchesis and choreography of colorguard. Looking forward: we can see that these groups will be performing at Pasadena’s Black History Parade on February 17th, 2024. When it comes to the Pasadena High School jazz ensemble, their second performance will be on February 23rd, 2024 for the Western States Jazz Festival, playing a total of three pieces. Backtracking a tiny bit, we stumble upon an incredible achievement by PHS’ colorguard! With them winning first place at their first WGASC competition! With this being their debut, many competitions are to come, alongside championships in the spring.
Pasadena High School’s musical cast will also be performing in just a few months! Last year, PHS’ musical theatre cast performed Mean Girls The Musical, while this year they will be performing FAME The Musical. Production is in progress, with the musical to be showing on April 11-13!
Alongside these Pasadena High School specific performances; PUSD also will be showcasing their own wider selection of performing arts in a few areas. Recently on February 7th, Pasadena Unified School District held their 2024 Choir Festival in collaboration with Pasadena Chorale. And on February 9th, PUSD’s Orchestra Festival took place. In both of these festivals, Pasadena High School showcased their brilliant choir and orchestra students. Soon to come on February 29th will be Pasadena Unified School District’s Dance Festival, and from March 8th through the 17th, the NO BOUNDARIES K-12 Art Exhibition will take place!
Through these wonderful showcases that have taken palace and those soon to come, we can see the multiple prospering performing arts groups here not only at Pasadena High School, but inside of the Pasadena Unified School district as a whole. While all of these groups will continue to perform, the students partaking in them are the true spirit of not only the art created, but they each truly bring the energy associated with each!
